Untitled DocumentIn Relation To US Vice President Richard Cheney's Policy SpeechMinistry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian FederationFebruary 22, 2002
Moscow has taken note of the programmatic statement of US Vice President Richard Cheney on priorities in national economic policy, which he made in the American Council on Foreign Relations.
Special emphasis was laid in it on the USA's energy strategy, which has much in common with Russia's approach to energy policy. Deepening Russian-American energy cooperation, of which the key aspects were discussed in the course of the recent meeting in Washington between Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Kasyanov and Cheney, appears very promising in this context.
Russia and the USA can be natural and effective partners in the energy dialogue. All the objective prerequisites have evolved for that.
We hope that this theme will receive its further development in the course of the upcoming (May 2002) official visit of US President George W. Bush to Russia.
